Javy Ortiz

Visual Artist

Javy Ortiz is a visual artist based in Lawrence, Kansas, known for bold color, layered texture, and a strong sense of technical precision. His work moves between abstract and figurative forms, drawing from his cultural roots and personal experiences.

Ortiz’s abstract work channels street art and abstract expressionism, building layered, textured surfaces full of energy and color. His figurative pieces draw inspiration from traditional folk art, combined with a modern aesthetic. Across both styles, he explores identity, memory, and culture, letting texture, color, and form guide viewers into the story behind each work.

His newest body of work introduces a style of geometric realism, combining precise structure with lifelike form. This approach brings a strong sense of balance to his compositions, merging control with expression in a way that feels both modern and rooted in tradition.

Ortiz is an active presence in the Lawrence art community, with work featured in a range of group and solo exhibitions. He was recently selected as the lead artist for a public art installation honoring La Yarda, a historic housing community that once housed Mexican American railroad workers and their families in the early 1900s. Unveiled in fall 2025, the project reflects his ongoing commitment to honoring heritage, community, and place through his work.
