Javy Ortiz is an artist based in Lawrence, Kansas, working across abstract and figurative forms. His work is recognized for bold color, layered texture, and technical precision, drawing from his cultural roots, personal experiences, and the places and people that shape him.

Ortiz works primarily in series, using each body of work as an opportunity to explore a different idea, process, or perspective. FRGMNTS explores fragmentation, memory, and the relationship between individual moments and the larger picture. ST!TCHD steps away from his usual precision, embracing spontaneity, movement, and reconstruction through cutting, rearranging, and stitching canvas. More recent works explore geometric realism, bringing precise structure and lifelike form together in a balance of control and expression.

In recent years, Ortiz has expanded his practice into public art, creating murals and large-scale installations that bring his visual language into shared spaces. Projects such as Buen Ambiente and Remembering La Yarda explore community, heritage, and place while creating opportunities for art to exist beyond the studio. His work has been featured in group and solo exhibitions throughout the Lawrence art community, and his Remembering La Yarda project was unveiled in fall 2025 as a public installation honoring the historic Mexican American railroad community of La Yarda.
